The Hennessey Eagles opened their 2025 football season on the road Friday night, August 29, against the Cashion Wildcats. Despite a strong start and flashes of toughness, the Eagles came up short, falling 41-13.
The game began with promise as Mario Lopez ripped off a 26-yard run on the opening drive to set the tone. The Eagles leaned heavily on the ground game, rushing 43 times for 196 yards. Lopez carried the load with 23 rushes for 105 yards, keeping the chains moving even when the offense struggled to break through for points.
Defensively, Hennessey had trouble containing Cashion’s passing attack. The Wildcats connected for 243 yards through the air on just 10 completions, keeping the Eagles’ defense on its heels. Still, Hagen Copeland and Beau Vinsondelivered some hard hits to try to spark momentum.
Hennessey finally broke through in the fourth quarter when Vinson powered in for a six-yard touchdown run. The late score capped a night that showed both the team’s grit and the areas needing improvement.
The Eagles will look to bounce back in their home opener next Friday at 7:00 PM against the Chisholm Longhorns.
