Nearly 100 friends and family gathered at the Hennessey First United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 23, 2025, for what was originally planned as a celebration of Jewel Babiakโs 90th birthday. The party had been organized months in advance, with invitations extended to much of the community.
Sadly, Jewel passed away on July 21st. With the plans already in place, the Babiak family chose to move forward with the gathering, transforming it into both a celebration of her milestone birthday and a remembrance of her life.
Pastor Sandy Shepherd led a short service, then family and friends shared stories, enjoyed music, good food, and fellowship, honoring Jewel in the way she would have loved. There were five veteran members of the Green Berets: U.S. Army Special Forces, present to pay their respect to Jewel and her family.
