Waukomis Fire Chief Bobby Kokojan returned home, Tuesday, July 29th, after spending more than five weeks in the hospital recovering from serious injuries sustained when a northbound train struck the combine he was operating south of Waukomis on Saturday, June 21st.
Drivers along Highway 81 between Hennessey and Waukomis witnessed a powerful show of support as fire trucks from across the region lined the highway in tribute. Departments from Hennessey, Waukomis, Hunter, Pioneer, Drummond, Enid, Douglas, and Lahoma, along with Garfield County Emergency Management, joined in the escort to bring their chief home.
Around 50 firefighters, family members, and friends gathered in Chief Kokojan’s front yard, cheering and waving signs as he arrived. The mood was emotional but joyous, as Bobby was finally back.
