On Friday, June 13th, Kingfisher County Emergency Management held a much-anticipated drawing for the FEMA Storm Shelter Rebate Grant at the Kingfisher County Courthouse. The event, aimed at increasing severe weather safety for residents, included the drawing of 220 names from a list of applicants who had signed up over the past year.
Presiding over the drawing was Kingfisher County Associate District Judge Lance E. Schneiter, who randomly pulled names to determine the order of grant recipients. The drawing was broadcast live on the All About Kingfisher Facebook page, allowing the community to watch the process in real time.
This grant, which has been in development since public meetings were held last May in Hennessey and other county towns, will provide each selected participant with a $3,000 rebate toward the installation of a personal storm shelter or safe room.
Those whose names were drawn will be contacted directly by phone by Kingfisher County Emergency Management within the week following the drawing. Officials stress the importance of answering calls during this period, as communication is vital to continue the process.
Kingfisher County Emergency Manager Ryan Deatherage emphasized that recipients should not install or purchase a shelter yet. All selected participants are required to attend a mandatory informational meeting before proceeding. This meeting will cover essential guidelines, requirements, and the next steps in the rebate program.
Meeting Details Date: Tuesday, June 24th | Location: Kingfisher County Fairgrounds – Women’s Building | Session Options: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM or 3:00 PM–6:00 PM
