The Bison Cooperative Association has a rich history that dates back to September 1905, just two years before our state was formed. It all started when Frank J. Havlik and Alois Trojan teamed up to create the Bison Mercantile Company. In those early days, they offered a wide variety of products, including groceries, hardware, furniture, and even tractors and machinery from Heider and John Deere. At one point, they even sold Maxwell and Studebaker cars!
Fast forwarding to 1920, the Bison Farmers Elevator was established, which was a big step in supporting local agriculture. The name was changed to the Bison Cooperative Association in 1963, reflecting its stronger ties to the farming community. Today, the cooperative has impressive grain storage capabilities, with the ability to store 575,000 bushels of grain and receive up to 32,000 bushels per hour.
What makes Bison Cooperative special is its commitment to its customers. Beyond grain handling, the cooperative offers a wide range of products essential for farmers. They offer a variety of products, including dry and liquid fertilizers, crop protection chemicals, feed, seed, fuel, tires, oil changes, fence posts, and more.
