The Lady Eagles faced the Blackwell Lady Maroons in a rematch for the district championship. In their previous match-up, Blackwell struggled, failing to score for the first six minutes. However, this time they started strong and kept the game close in the beginning. Despite this, the Lady Eagles quickly took and maintained the lead. In the second quarter, their defense excelled once again, disrupting the Lady Maroons’ offense by jumping passing lanes and forcing multiple turnovers. This allowed the Eagles to pull away significantly, establishing a 17-point lead by halftime. Although Blackwell showed improved offensive play in the second half, the Lady Eagles remained focused and never allowed the game to become competitive again, ultimately winning the championship with a final score of 54-32. They will face Alva in their first regional match-up on Thursday night.
On the boys’ side, the Eagles were also looking for redemption after a close loss to Blackwell in their last encounter. The Maroons maintained the lead for most of the first half, thanks to strong defense from both teams and poor shooting from beyond the arc by the Eagles. Blackwell’s rebounding allowed them to hold a slight advantage, and they headed into halftime with a score of 23-21. After the break, Blackwell scored first, but the Eagles fought back and took the lead. The second half was highly competitive, with both teams playing tightly. Freshman Hagen Copeland hit a clutch three-pointer with less than a minute remaining, tying the game at 38-38. However, Blackwell managed to secure the last shot of the game, sinking a difficult off-the-dribble three-pointer to win the district championship with a final score of 41-38. The boys will face Perry in their regional opener.
