The Lady Eagles, who have been streaking hot lately, hosted the Shattuck Lady Indians for their first of two skordle festival games. The ladies defense held very strong early, while only allowing 3 points in the first quarter they established a quick double digit lead led by Emma Copeland, who would finish the game with 16. The 2nd quarter was even better defensively, only allowing 2 points. They went into halftime leading 30-5. The Lady Indians faired better offensively in the 2nd half, but it was far little too late, as the 25 point lead would extend to a final score 30 point victory, 46-16, and they play a ranked Balko-Forgan team on Saturday.
The boys, coming off a tough loss against cashion, were missing a few players due to illness in their matchup against Shattuck. Shattuck started out very well, making tough bucket after tough bucket to stay a step ahead of the Eagles. Freddy Meraz had double digit points in the first half, as well as Camdyn Richardson, who scored his 1500th career point. The Eagles ended the first half leading by 6 points. In the 3rd and 4th quarter, the Eagles managed to stay just ahead of the Indians, until late in the 4th. Camdyn and Shattuck’s Ben Elam were going shot for shot back and forth, and in the last 4:30 minutes of basketball, Elam shot, and made, every shot for the Indians, including the late dagger 3 pointer. The Eagles just missed the game winner, losing 55-53.
