Dorothy Luella Walker Dunigan was born the youngest child of the late Elvice Eugene and Martha Allene Williamson Walker on September 23, 1944, in Ringling, Oklahoma. When she was born her older brother Gordon wouldn’t even look at her because he wanted a baby brother since he already had two other sisters. They eventually became as good of friends as a brother and sister can be.
She was raised in Jefferson County, Oklahoma, and attended Zaneis High School, graduating in 1962. She married Odell Dunigan on September 29, 1962, at Zaneis Baptist Church. To this union four children were born: Cindy, Kenny, Laurie, and Denny. They made their home in Dover.
She was very active in her younger years. She loved to bowl and bowled in bowling leagues. She was able to travel across the United States with her teammates to bowl in championship tournaments. She was involved in all of her kids’ activities and followed them to their basketball and baseball games as well as other school activities.
She was a member of the Dover Athletic Booster Club. Momma Lu always had her place of honor in the west window of the gym, tapping on that window and pointing out what everyone did wrong. She loved the Dover Longhorns and was still supporting them. The family had to bring her a team roster so that she knew who the players were while watching from home! In addition to her Longhorns, she loved the Oklahoma Sooners. If things weren’t going the way she thought they should be, you’d hear her yelling at the TV. She loved visiting with the OU legends at the golf tournaments. Her home was always open to all her kids’ friends! Day or night there was a houseful of kids, especially when Lu had taco salad made! Most everyone in town loved to eat her taco salad. She later started working at the café in Dover and then later at Pioneer Telephone, retiring in 2018.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Tucker (Mart) Dover, Kenny Dunigan (Leisa) Dover, Laurie Scheaffer, Tuskahoma, Denny Dunigan (Alecia) Perkins, bonus son, Dusty Pringnitz (Sherry), Kingfisher. 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Her sister Betty Engle (Lavelle), Healdton, OK, brother-in-law Edward Claxton, Healdton, OK, Sister-in-law Mary Johnson (Glynn), Crescent, OK, Trish Eaton (Tommy), Cashion, OK and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by: Her parents Elvice and Allene Walker. Her brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Reita Walker. Sister Gloria Sue Walker Claxton, mother and father-in-law Larnce and Blondell Dunigan, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law Patsy and Wesley Fondren, and Judy and Jimmy Lee.
The Dunigan Family would like to extend our gratitude for all the prayers, love, and support we have received during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dover School Educational Foundation.
