LIGHTNING DELAYS CAN’T DELAY THE EAGLES PLAYOFF DREAMS!

by Taylor Ladwig

The (5-4) Hennessey Eagles had a do or die matchup against the Casady Cyclones, winner goes to the playoffs. On a chilly and rainy evening, the Eagles run game dominated. Hagen Copeland started the defense off optimally, with an interception, followed by Gunnar Holder and Jessin Hardin ripping off big runs, with Hardin punching it in for the first score of the ball game for Hennessey. The following drive stalled in punt fashion, and Jessin received one touch that he took over 20 yards to the house for the second score, and he wouldn’t be done just yet. Casady’s offensive finally gained a sense of momentum, striking quickly through the air to cut the deficit to one score, but Hardin gauged a 65 yard run to set up Braedyn Richardson perfectly for a 4 yard touchdown. The first lighting delay stopped the game at 21-7. When we returned, Gunnar Holder joined in on the fun for a rushing touchdown of his own, and another stop for the defense gave Jessin Hardin a hat trick 3rd touchdown in his best game of his career, extending the lead to 34-7. Unfortunately technical difficulties led me away from the game, but the Eagles would not tarnish their 27 point lead, winning by a final score of 48-21.
