The All About Hennessey Building Episode TWO

Welcome back! So we now have our very own building! Yay… If you have not seen Episode ONE, stop and go look at it first. Go ahead, I’ll wait….. The Original plan was to just freshen it up a bit, Paint the walls and move in! An easy 30-day project. That plan lasted about one day… Turns out the roof needed attention right away and the big magnolia tree was resting on it. Fortunately Tovar Lawn Service made quick work of trimming the tree and we were ready to tackle the roof. I figured we’ll slap some new shingles up there and we’re good to go. Nope, we were informed that the entire roof had to come off and be re-decked. I was introduced to Antonio’s roofing and construction. This was the scene of our new building during the first week. Needless to say I was starting to question my decision of owning an old building! Antonio and his crew were amazing, they attacked the roof and got it done in less than 3 days. I highly recommend these guys! It was about this time when we decided that the handicap ramp needed to go. I called Jimmy Berkenbile and he said the CAT Team had a home for it. So we donated it and one Saturday morning he picked it up and we delivered it to a family that would make good use of it. The original plan was to add a few walls, and freshen up the bathroom and kitchen… After poking around in the bathroom it became obvious that this was going to be a major demo. Everything had to go. BTW A great deal of this work was done by me… Many were surprised that I was the general contractor, but I have been a bonded contractor for many years having built our first studio in Enid 30 some years ago, and I have taken on many major remodel projects since then. Now that we knew this was going to be a total demo job I decided to also tear out the kitchen and make that an office. That led us to redesign the bathroom making it a small kitchen and bathroom combination. Now that everything has been demoed we we’re ready to start fresh with the new construction! So we thought… In the next episode, things don’t get any better when we learn more about our wonderful old house… Stay Tuned!
