THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IN ALVA!

The (2-2) Hennessey Eagles traveled to Alva to face the Goldbugs. Both teams stalled on their first drives, and after a wonderful punt by Alva, the Eagles were backed into their own territory. After a batted ball, the Goldbugs ran back a pick-six to give Alva the first lead of the game, 7-0. Hennessey proceeded to march slowly, with Gunnar Holder eventually tagging a 39-yard shifty touchdown to tie the ballgame up. The scoring would subsize until 3 seconds to go in the half when the tailback for the Bugs scored on a 7-yard screen to send the game into halftime. The Goldbugs kicked it off hot, with a great drive capped off by a speed option 20+ yard touchdown to make it 21-7. Holder and company wouldn’t be stifled, though, as they took it straight down the Goldbug field, just to fumble on 1st and goal from the 3-yard line. Not all was lost, though, until a 99-yard rushing touchdown for the Bugs followed a TFL to the one. The score was then 28-7, headed into the 4th. The Eagles were able to get seven on a QB sneak touchdown for Holder, but it was too little too late, as the prayer ball interception on the final drive capped the game off 28-14. The boys fall to 2-3 and face Meeker at home next week.
