Alice was born and raised in Hennessey, OK by Albert and Barbara Streck. She was one of five children (Tom, Patty, Roy, and Paul) and she had the honor and privilege to grow up in Hennessey. Not only did Alice have her family’s support through the good and bad times, she had her friends, educators, church family and the Hennessey community itself. Alice always knew she wanted to be an educator because of her mother and several educators she had met along her journey. After graduating from Hennessey High School (1978), she attended NOC for two years, during this time she married LeRoy Haskins. She then transferred to Phillips University. LeRoy and Alice moved to Cherokee, OK when he was given the opportunity to work for Conoco. While in Cherokee, Alice completed her education degree at NWOSU in Alva, OK. After graduation, they were thrilled to get the chance to move back to Hennessey. Alice was hired as a Hennessey Middle School teacher/coach. At this moment in her life, Alice thought she had won the lottery! Life got a lot sweeter for LeRoy and Alice when they welcomed a daughter into the world- Brandee. After 13 years of teaching in Hennessey, LeRoy, Alice and Brandee got transferred to Grand Junction, CO. For two years Alice taught in a Private School, and this is where she fell in love with snow skiing, running, and many other outdoor activities. After living in Grand Junction, they were transferred to Cheyenne, WY where she taught in two districts. During this time Alice taught grades 2-6th. She also served on various committees, leadership teams, and community organizations. One of her favorite organizations was assisting with Cheyenne Frontier Days. LeRoy and Alice helped host the SunCor booth at CFD for 10 years, allowing them to become part of the rodeo family. During their time in Cheyenne, Brandee graduated from high school and The University of Wyoming. Brandee is married to her amazing husband Adam and they live in Idaho. This is also where they are raising their adventurous and beautiful daughter, Lark. After almost 25 years in Cheyenne, WY, LeRoy and Alice decided it was time to move back to Oklahoma. Alice currently lives in North Edmond where she enjoys traveling, running, yardwork, swimming, reading, baking, attending OSU games, Civic Center Musicals, working as a substitute in the Edmond Schools, and most of all reconnecting with her family, friends and former students.
Alice’s main goal as an educator was to build a positive relationship with each of her students and let each student know that they are important and noticed. Her greatest achievement as an educator, is all the achievements of my former students. Alice was Hennessey Public School Teacher of the Year, Sam’s Club Teacher of the Year, Channel 5 Teacher of the Year, and many more accomplishments were achieved throughout her teaching career.
Alice would like to say a huge Thank You to the community of Hennessey for preparing her for life and all the obstacles that come with it. She will always think of Hennessey as her hometown, and is very proud to say that.
