TRUSTEES SAVE THE SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER

The Hennessey Senior Citizen Center located on E. 2nd St has been a lifeline for residents for many years. This beloved center provides a place for seniors to socialize, play cards, enjoy a meal, and even receive meal deliveries if needed.

However, the center has faced financial challenges in recent years, particularly with rising utility expenses. The Town took ownership of the building a few years ago, but the center was still responsible for the utility bills.

Last month, several members of the group approached the Hennessey Board of Trustees, seeking assistance in taking over the utilities. At this month’s meeting, the board voted to relieve the center of this burden by taking over all of the utility expenses. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause as the board approved their request.

This decision ensures that the Hennessey Senior Citizen Center can continue its vital services without the added worry of overwhelming utility costs. The senior residents can rest assured that their cherished gathering place will remain open, providing support and companionship for years to come.
