HENNESSEY SCHOOLS FEATURE INTERNS

Araceli Lopez is a senior at HHS. She is doing her internship at Kingfisher Dental and Braces in Kingfisher Oklahoma. She was a member of the track team her freshman year and participated in cross country her sophomore year. For the last two and a half years she has been working part-time at Walmart.

Last year she interned with the intent of possibly going into the field of interior design. However, after having second thoughts about her career choice, she became interested in the dentistry field after attending a conference last year at the University of Oklahoma. It was at that point that she solidified her choice of internship for this year to intern with a dental hygienist.

Since beginning the internship, she has enjoyed her experience. She has had the opportunity to observe dental filling and crown implant procedures.  She also gets some hands-on experience by assisting with gum measurements.  Araceli plans on attending the University of Oklahoma and earning a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene.

Joseph Davis, a senior, is currently an intern with Circle B Diesel. His workplace host is Brian Byrd. He became a student at HHS at the beginning of his ninth-grade year. Joseph has been active in several sports throughout high school and his favorite pastime is golf.  He was president of FCCLA and STUCO secretary/reporter his sophomore year.

Joseph has had a lot of experience working on a farm. Not only did he enjoy working with his hands, he discovered he was pretty good at it.  Last summer, he was accepted into an eight-week paid internship with Western Equipment in Alva, Oklahoma. A lot of time was spent learning about John Deere equipment. He decided at that point to become a John Deere Technician. Circle B Diesel was an excellent choice for an internship because Joseph’s and Brian’s pathways mirror each other in many ways.

Joseph will be receiving a full scholarship through Western Equipment to attend one of two colleges that offer the John Deere Tech program. He will make a decision on whether to attend Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas or Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. When he successfully completes his two years at one of the institutions mentioned, he will have an Associate in Applied Science along with certifications in hydraulics, wiring, and welding.

Both Araceli and Joseph are part of the Hennessey School Career & Internship Program.  This program, directed by Kim Hallmark matches students with business allowing them to experience real-life day-to-day operations in a career field they have an interest in.
