The South Mitchell Rd. ditch/drainage project has been underway for several months, but encountered a setback due to funding and a previous repair that did not align correctly. The issue began when the ditch was covered up at the 300 block of S. Mitchell Rd. several years ago. This solution worked until the new drainage project began and the elevations did not match the engineering firm’s plan. Unfortunately, the engineer left out the covered part when mapping out the new drainage between 6th and Oklahoma St. along Mitchell, causing the new work to not drain properly. The original project was funded by a grant, but more money had to be allocated by the Hennessey Board of Trustees to fix the missing part. This involved repairing the grade and installing new culverts in front of several homes where the ditch was covered to ensure the entire project would drain
