During the Hennessey Board of Trustees planning meeting on Saturday, it was announced that Hennessey Police Chief Ed Cangiano had resigned. Cangiano was hired as assistant chief on December 11, 2018, and then hired as the chief on September 3, 2020, when then-chief Hank Weber resigned.
Cangiano and his family moved to Hennessey from Phoenix, Arizona to take the position. Cangiano is a retired Master Sergeant from the Air Force, retired Lieutenant from the Bethany, Oklahoma Police Department, and the Sr master instructor for Taser international based in Phoenix Arizona.” Cangiano was also the Director of Emergency Management for Hennessey.
Hennessey Police officer Aaron Pitts will be the interim chief until the town board decides how to fill this position. Pitts is currently assigned to the Hennessey Public Schools as their resource officer. Pitts is also a trained DARE officer.
Cangiano said at the meeting, “Pitts cannot be at the school full time and be the chief, so we are working with the school and will respond very quickly if needed.” “Arron and I have the same values, and I feel confident leaving the department in his hands.”
Cangiano said, “I love it here at Hennessey. My leaving has nothing to do with my job. I have personal family issues, and will be moving to Tishomingo, Oklahoma”. His last day will be February 24.
