One step forward and two steps back is no way to play a football game. The Eagles did some very good things on Friday night: 3 different Hennessey Receivers had catches of over 20 yards; the Defense swarmed to the ball forcing a Safety on a QB Sack on Blackwell’s first possession; multiple Tackles for Loss in the Maroon Offensive Backfield; holding the home team to less than 200 Yards of Total Offense. But every time the Eagles did something good, they quickly shot themselves in the foot with Penalties (9 for 75 Yards), QB sacks (8 for -60 Yards), Fumbles Lost (2), Negative Offensive Plays (-19 Yards in muffed, dropped, or errant snaps), while going 4 for 13 on 3rd Down, and Turning the Ball Over on Downs 4 times. All these factors culminated in a 21-2 road loss to the Blackwell Maroons (1-5, 1-2) for the Hennessey Eagles (3-3, 1-2).
Sebastian Gonzalez (#1) went 12 for 23 for 147 Yards with 0 Interceptions and 0 Touchdowns. His leading receiver on the night was Seth Simunek (#4). Seth brought down 5 Receptions for 83 Yards with a long of 36. Weston Smith (#2) added 3 Catches for 34 Yards, while Nyk Snyder (#9), in his first offensive start of the season at Tailback, caught 2 Passes for 30 Yards and ran the ball 12 times for 55 yards on the ground. Kevin Trillo added 1 Catch for 5 Yards, to round out the offense. The Defense was led by Keigen Crites (#36) with his 9 Total Tackles and 2 QB Sacks.
With no time to stew on the Friday night loss, the Eagles have a short week to prepare for the Chisholm Longhorns (0-6, 0-3) this coming Thursday, October 14th, on the road in North Enid for the Fall Break matchup between two Class 2A District 1 foes. EagleVoice photos by Beth Curran
