Mass of Christian Burial for Wilma Petru, 98, will be Friday, April 16, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Masks will be required at the church. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hennessey under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory, Enid.
Wilma was born July 11, 1922, the oldest of nine children, to Charles and Mary Bartunek Schovanec and died April 12, 2021, in Enid with her family by her side.
She grew up in Bison and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. On August 20, 1941, she married Ernest Petru in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Enid. They made their home in Crescent, Douglas, and Drummond. Wilma was the school cook for 26 years at Drummond Schools. Following Ernest’s death, she moved to Waukomis. Wilma was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and attended St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; two brothers, Leonard and Charles, an infant brother, Robert, and three sisters, Helen Hromas, Delores Matousek, Erma Kokojan.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marvin and Diane Petru of Waukomis, Janice and Bert Mackie of Enid, Marlene and Doug Oliver of Edmond; four grandchildren, Steven Mackie, David and wife, Susan Mackie, Darrell Oliver and fiancé Charity, and Kim Oliver; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Reagan Smalling; brother, Virgil and wife, Rose Ann Schovanec of Hennessey; sister, Deborah Schovanec A.S.C. of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Schovanec of Hunter and Beatrice Schovanec of Enid; many other relatives and friends.
