HENNESSEY
Ming Wong was born in Canton, China on April 4, 1936 and passed away March 9, 2021.
Ming is survived by his wife Susie, daughter Brenda Wong and husband Kelly Webster, son Michael Wong and wife Karla, granddaughters Jordan and Jenna, numerous sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Ming came to Enid in 1957 where he worked alongside his Aunt and Uncle as a cook at Three Towers Restaurant. He met and married the beautiful Susie Ho at Enid in 1960. They celebrated 60 years together this past August. Ming and Susie opened the fabulous Wong’s Restaurant at Hennessey in 1969 and retired in 1996 after 30 years. He and Susie loved to cater to all their customers. (Can you still taste the hot rolls???)
Ming loved to fish anywhere and anytime. How many ponds did he frequent with his hot rolls to feed the fish as he tossed pieces into the pond the fish would actually jump up from the water! He passed his love of fishing to his granddaughter, Jordan, she was his fishing buddy.
Ming also LOVED OU! He was ever the great OU fan, you would see him decked out in sweatshirt, cap, socks, and shoes. He wore a pair of OU slippers so long that he had to put duct tape on them in order to keep wearing them. He passed the love of OU to his granddaughter Jenna who is now a Boomer Sooner. You find him watching the game on TV with a pair of headphones listening to the radio announcers. If a game was on it didn’t matter where he was (graduation, weddings…) he was going to be listening to the game.
Ming relished being outside. His passion for gardening could be seen every year, a beautiful lush, green garden and incredible Chinese vegetables. You could see him tending to his plants every day, pruning the fruit trees, mowing the lawn, and staying outside well into the late evening.
This is just a bit about Ming. He appreciated you all and some of us can hear him say, “listen to what you mom say”.
There will be a visitation with the family from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. The family requests everyone wear a mask.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 15. 2021 at Kechi Cemetery in Kechi, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to Integris Hospice House, Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife Conservation or the charity of donor’s choice with Cordry-Gritz serving as custodian of the fund.
