Kingfisher
Mildred Mae Swisher, 93, Kingfisher, longtime resident of Dover, died at her home Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Dover Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey.
Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16; noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17; and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 18 and 19.
Mildred was born March 6, 1927, in Moorewood, the second of six children to Bascum Butler and Emma (Wohl) Moseley.
She graduated from Leedey High School in 1945.
Mildred married Ted Swisher in Moorewood on June 10, 1949. They were married for 60 years before his death in June 2008.
The couple first lived in Elk City, where their two oldest sons, Darrell and Bill, were born.
From there they moved to Marlow and then Gainesville, Texas, which is where their oldest daughter, Rhonda, was born.
After that came Brownstown, Ill., where their two youngest, Mike and Daphne, were born.
The family also moved to Amarillo, Texas, Liberal, Kan., and Enid before settling in Dover in 1965.
Ted and Mildred were longtime members of Dover Baptist Church where she also served as the church treasurer.
Mildred also worked as a cook at Dover School before later serving a number of years as a volunteer in the elementary library.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Bascum Butler Moseley Jr., Lee Allen Moseley, Melvin Moseley and John Moseley; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Swisher.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Julia Alice Phillips of Enid; children Darrell Swisher and wife Teri of Kingfisher, Bill Swisher and companion Susan Winchester of Hinton, Rhonda Fleming and husband Johnnie of Kingfisher, Mike Swisher and wife Kim of Leedey, and Daphne Optiz and husband Mike of Binger.
She is also survived by grandchildren Candice St. Cyr and husband Rick of Kingfisher, Michael Swisher and wife Julie of Kingfisher, Whitney Marshall and husband Kevin of Piedmont, Carrie Mueggenborg and husband Cory of Kingfisher, Israel Weber of Kingfisher, Levi Weber of Kingfisher, Shannon Smith and husband Nathan of Broken Arrow, Shawn Swisher and wife Jennifer of Velma, Sarah Noll and husband Justin of Okeene, Seth Swisher and wife Kaycee of Elk City, Jessica Swisher of Leedey, Chuck Swisher and wife Carolyn of Kingfisher, Makensy Smith and husband John of Binger, Kylie Toho and husband Jobey of Binger, Shane Winchester and wife Amber of Vidor, Texas, and Lon Winchester of Beaumont, Texas; 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mildred’s honor be made to Dover Baptist Church, Central Baptist Association and/or Russell-Murray Hospice.
