The Hennessey Eagles and Lady Eagles welcomed in Watonga to the Eagle Event Center Tuesday night for a regular season battle of the birds, with our ladies dropping the first game 53-31, and the boys taking home the W by a score of 47-41.Watonga’s Lady Eagles, coached by Lauren Campo and (former Hennesseyite) Alyssa Fuxa, came out of the gates on fire, knocking down 4 3’s and a slew of 2-pointers to go up 23-11 after 1 quarter of play. Watonga put it in cruise control from there, and our girls did all they could to try to battle back. Led by Senior Gracie Mill’s 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot, our ladies did out-rebound Watonga 25-20, but the visitor’s lock-down defense and offensive athleticism was too much for Hennessey. Yuridia Rios added 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot; followed by Noelle Pollard’s 5 points in the 3rd; Kassidy Amburn and Harlee Dowell each had 3 points; and sister’s Juliana and Larissa Macy both with 2 – the elder (Juliana) adding 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.Our Hennessey Lady Eagles (3-4) will host the Oklahoma Bible Academy Lady Trojans (2-7) this Friday night, 6:30 tipoff at the Eagle Event Center, for Homecoming 2021.For the second time in five days, the Hennessey Eagles had all they could handle from the Watonga Eagles (3-2), and for the second time in that span our Eagles got the victory. Cold shooting and getting out-rebounded 16-9 in the 1st half led to too many 1 and done trips on the offensive end, and with only 1 made field goal (a Layton Choate 3-pointer) in the 2nd quarter, Hennessey trailed by 8 at the half, 23-15. The mid-game break recharged the Eagles’ batteries and refocused them on who they are. It showed, because coming out to begin the 3rd, the lock-down pressure from Coach Brady Page’s D turned an 8-point deficit into a 5-point lead before the 4th quarter began. With his 14 points and 10 rebounds, Jael Torres recorded yet another Double-Double, adding 3 blocked shots defensively. Cristian Rodriguez was perfect from the line and finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Juan Dominguez, whose back-court defensive assault was key to the comeback win had 7 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 5 steals. Chris Tovar finished with 4 steals of his own, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 7 points. Layton Choate finished with 5 off 3 rebounds, and Senior PG Wade Vinson had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist (bloody knee and all). Coach Page, now 2 wins away from 200 all-time, is now 15-3 versus Watonga, and 3-0 against future OCA Hall of Famer Kirk Graham, going back to to his first victory in 2018 Area versus Carnegie.The Eagles (7-1, #6 2A) welcome in OBA Trojans (2-6) this Friday to the EEC.
