We all take for granted what it takes for our mail to magically appear in our mailboxes every day.ย ย The USPS motto is โNeither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.โย ย If you notice, this doesnโt include many of the situations we regularly experience in our area such as extreme winds, mud, powerlines down, falling ice, and bridges out just to name a fewโฆย ย And then there are the ice storms!ย ย Darla OBrien, one of the Hennessey rural mail carriers said โOne of my tools for delivering mail this week includes a hammer.โย ย The storm that blanked the Hennessey area this week made it difficult to get mail into the boxes.ย ย Obrien said, โYou could tell when I delivered because the ice was off the box.โย ย Obrien has been with the Hennessey Post Office for 14 years and travels about 125 miles per day and delivers to about 425 mail boxes.ย ย All 4 of the rural carriers said this line of work is really hard on vehicles with all the county roads and weather.ย ย All the Hennessey carriers agreed that the people they deliver to are amazing.ย ย Some of the things residents have left for them include; hand sanitizer and toilet paper.ย During the holidays, people make them hot chocolate and treats.ย ย The Hennessey Post Office services 2101 customers not including the PO boxes.ย ย Their rural delivery area includes Hennessey, Dover and Loyal. The Hennessey mail carriers include; Sherrie Cross, Cindy Wilczex, Tammy Plaster, Dawn Kunkel, Darla Obrien, Scot Meier, Rebecca Riggs, Arron Hyatt and Bryclyn McCreary.ย ย The Post Master is Jason Witt.ย
