Charles Vernon Berkenbile, 91, of Celina and Dallas, TX. passed away June 15, 2020 in Southlake, TX. of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. He was born July 7, 1928 to Charles Oscar Berkenbile and Alma Curry Berkenbile in Hennessey, Oklahoma. He grew up on a farm 10 miles east of Hennessey. He
married Joyce Sue Noel on January 27, 1950 in Dallas, TX. He was a union electrician for 65 years. He was a member of IBEW Local 59. He served in the Navy from 1945-1947 as a radio operator. At the age of 17 he joined his brothers, fighting for his country in World War II, Charles was stationed in Hawaii. He was assigned to the USS Furse and witnessed the Bikini Island nuclear testing of bombs that ended the war. He was a past member of Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church and present member of First Presbyterian
Church of Prosper .
He is survived by daughters Judith Ann McMeekan and husband Gary of Celina, Kathryn Ann Emmett and husband Joe of Waxahachie, son Stephan Charles Berkenbile and wife Janet, Grandsons, Joseph Emmett and wife Danielle, Oak Leaf, Robert McMeekan, Oklahoma City, Bryan McMeekan and wife Kari, Celina, Granddaughters, Beth Hensarling and husband, Ronnie, Dallas , Charley Berkenbile, Samatha Berkenile, Southlake,, and three great grandchildren. Brother in law, Don Self, Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents , his wife Sue of 58 years and his siblings Aleene Self, Juanita Rogers, Irene States, brothers Delmar Berkenbile, Hollis Berkenbile, Leland Berkenbile, and their spouses.
A memorial service will be held at Union Chapel Christian Church, Hennessey, Oklahoma, Monday, June 29, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. Graveside service will be held July 3, 2020 at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
