Flor arrived in California at the age of 16 with no English speaking skills. After graduating high school and working as a waitress she moved to Oklahoma, where she met her husband, married and had her first son. Flor was going to college working on her nursing degree when it was cut short by the arrival of her second son. It was about this time when her husband, who was a cook, had a dream to own his own restaurant. So with his cooking background, and Flor’s waitress experience they opened Los Perez Mexican restaurant on Main St. in Hennessey. After a major remodel and a name change, Casa Teja as we know it today is 17 years old. Flor’s dream is to go back to school, finish her degree and work as a medical assistant someday.
