HENNESSEY LADY EAGLES LAST GAME

The Hennessey Lady Eagles saw their 2020-2021 basketball season come to an end Friday night (February 26) in Round 2 of the Regional Consolation Bracket of the Class 2A Girls Basketball Championship Series at Eagle Event Center in Hennessey, falling 43-26 to the Cordell Lady Devils (10-11). The Lady Eagles won the opening tip. Unfortunately, that was about the last thing that went Hennessey’s way the rest of the game. Cordell took a 2-0 lead on their first possession, and never looked back. The Lady Eagles got only one field goal in the 1st quarter, a Juliana Macy three, and 3 two-pointers the rest of the half, seeing the Lady Devils take a 20-9 lead into the break. The 3rd was the best quarter offensively for our ladies, getting a hard-earned 12 points. But everything Hennessey did, Cordell did just a little bit better. When the Lady Devils nailed a three at the end of the 3rd, one of 8 made three’s for the visitors, the door for a potential comeback was essentially shut. Senior Gracie Mills, playing her final game for the Hennessey Lady Eagles, led the team in scoring, once again, with 10 points in the paint off 8 rebounds. Sophomore Noelle Pollard followed with 7 points and 2 rebounds. Juliana Macy had 2 three’s for 6 points and 3 rebounds, before fouling out in the 4th. Kassidy Amburn was the only Lady Eagle to go to the free-throw line, going 3 for 4 for her 3 points. The Hennessey Lady Eagles, under the direction of 1st year head coach Aly Seng, finished the 2020-2021 campaign at 6-11. The future looks bright, with 4 starters set to return and several other underclassmen waiting for their chance to shine. Building for the 2021-2022 high school girls basketball season begins today. -EagleVoice
