Rock Sparks Fire

Last Thursday’s 106-degree temps, dry grass, and wind kept Hennessey Firefighters busy with a fast-moving grass fire four east, three south, and about ¾ east.  Nick States was swathing alfalfa when he struck a rock sparking a fire.  The fire got into the trees and took off with flames well over the tops of the tall trees.  The fighters quickly knocked the fire down but not before it consumed about 5 acres.   No one was injured, and States was able to pull his swather out of danger.  It was not damaged.
