Norma Jean Carlson

It is with great sadness that the family of Norma Jean Carlson announces her passing on February 4, 2022, at the age of 91.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday February 12, 2022 at Hennessey Cemetery officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile. Viewing will be Friday February 11th from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Norma was born on January 4, 1931 on the family farm southeast of Hennessey, Oklahoma to Albert and Nellie Pain Rottger.  She attended Beulah, Oak View, and Hennessey Schools.  

She married Garol D. Carlson on August 28th, 1946. They made their home on the farm for over 50 years southeast of Hennessey and they had two sons who they raised on the farm.  

She was a housewife, as well as helping with farm work.  She loved her family and friends and loved doing volunteer work.  She was a longtime member of the Hennessey, Oklahoma First Christian Church. After her husband’s passing she moved to Warrenton, Missouri to be closer to family. 

In 2005 she met Arthur Schmidt and he taught her to play golf in which they played with a senior league group and made many more friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Garol D. Carlson, her parents, Albert and Nellie Rottger, brother, Robert Rottger, sister, Eva Louise Sullivan, an infant sister, and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Carlson.  

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy R. Carlson and his wife Cindy of Warrenton, Missouri, and Gary G. Carlson of Lake St. Louis, Missouri.   Two grandchildren, Amy Carlson-Long and her husband David Long of Warrenton, Missouri, Matthew R. Carlson of St. Louis, Missouri.  Two great-grandchildren, Madeline Thurman and her husband Joshua Thurman, and David Samuel Long.
