James “Jim” Clayton Hampton

Born August 6, 1942, in Enid, Oklahoma. Passed from this life on January 29, 2022, in Irving, Texas. Jim grew up in Hennessey, Oklahoma and graduated from Hennessey High School where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and the Boys Quartette. After high school Jim attended and graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He played football at OPSU and as a member of the 1961 team was inducted into the OPSU Aggie Football Hall of Fame on October 28, 2011. He treasured his football teammates and his lifelong friendships with them. After moving to Florida, Jim began his career in law enforcement. He served with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department and was a proud graduate of the 120th Session of the FBI National Academy. While living in Florida, Jim discovered his love for the Florida State Seminoles and became one of their biggest fans. After Florida, Jim moved back to Hennessey, where he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Janice (Vaverka Milligan). He moved to Irving, Texas to marry Janice and begin his career at the DFW Police Department. During his time at the DWF Airport Police Department, Jim served with Fire, EMT, and police. He was also a first responder on scene at the Delta 191 and Delta 1141 crashes. Jim retired as a lieutenant at the DFW Airport Police Department after 36 years of service. Jim and Janice recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed traveling, golfing and playing cards with their friends. Jim also cherished his “boondoggle” golf buddies and the time spent together.

Jim is survived by his wife Janice, children James, Haley, Kimberly, Greg and wife Shay, and Steve and wife Gwen and his beloved grandsons Donald James (DJ), Ruffin and Gage and brother Irvin and wife Helen. He is proceeded in death by his parents Cecil and Marcia Hampton and his son Jeffery.
