Agnes “Aggie” M. Shimanek

Agnes “Aggie” M. Shimanek, beloved sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021 in Houston, TX. Aggie was born on May 22, 1929 and raised in Hennessey, Oklahoma.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine Shimanek, brothers, Henry, William, David (Chuck) and George Shimanek and sisters Adel Popplewell and Helen Lamerton.

She is also survived by three siblings and their families, Jo Abady, Dallas, TX, Terri Haskins, Decatur, Il, and Don Shimanek, Harlingen, TX. Aggie loved her numerous nieces and nephews (all 30 of them) and remembered and honored every birthday, every year. She resided in Houston for 50 years having relocated from Denver with Shell Oil Company. She loved to travel and was proud of her Czech heritage and studied the Czech language for years. 

Aggie was a devout Catholic and attended Mass daily.  She knew every Mass schedule of every Catholic Church in the city Houston, her favorite being Our Lady of Czestochowa.  

Aggie had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and would ask Our Lady to intercede during her daily Holy Hour.

A special thank you to Billy and Sheila Haskins who visited her regularly and cared for her so lovingly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 22, at 11:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hennessey with Rev. Edward Menasco officiating. Burial will follow Calvary Cemetery, Hennessey under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
