WIN, AND ADVANCE

That is the singular focus of the Hennessey Lady Eagles entering the 2021 Oklahoma Class 2A Basketball Championship Series Regional, playing through the Consolation Bracket, following their District loss to Stroud on Tuesday evening. Win, and advance is exactly what our girls did versus the Tonkawa Lady Bucs (4-9) on Thursday, (February 25) afternoon at the Eagle Event Center. Both teams started slow, testing the waters in the 1st quarter, with the Lady Eagles holding a 1 point lead, 7-6 after one. The offensive pace quickened from there with both teams hitting double-digits each of the next 3 quarters. It’s hard to say a made basket in the 2nd quarter was the difference in the game, but Larissa Macy’s only bucket in the contest was a 3-pointer in that 2nd quarter, a quarter the Lady Eagles won by three, 17-14, and held on to win by two, 54-52. Senior Gracie Mills led the Ladies in scoring with 18 points, with 8 made field goals in the paint, while going 2 for 8 from the line. Juliana Macy was perfect from the line, 6 of 6, with 3 field goals and 12 points for the Junior. Also in double-figures was Yuridia Rios knocking down 10 points off the bench. Harlee Dowell followed with 8, off two made 3’s and a 2. Noelle Pollard had a 4th quarter 3 for her points. The Lady Bucs were almost perfect from the free throw line in the 2nd half, keeping the game within reach, going 10 of 12, and 18 of 23 for the game. The Lady Eagles finished 8 of 14 from the line. Win, and advance. And advance is what they will do, as the Lady Eagles (6-10) will play Friday night at 6:00 pm at the EEC in Round 2 of the Regional Consolation versus the loser of Thursday night’s game between top-seeded Amber-Pocasset (#4, 20-3) and Cordell (9-10). – EagleVoice
