DIFFICULT COVID WEEK IN HENNESSEY

The Hennessey area has had very low COVID-19 numbers since the beginning of the outbreak. But this week the numbers jumped significantly to 31. As a precaution, the town has closed the pool for the remainder of the year. The pool was only scheduled to open on weekends until Labor Day. Town Administrator, Tiffany Tillman said, “anyone that has booked the pool for a private event will still be able to use the pool. The splash pad is closed for repairs.“ According to Hennessey Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods, This weekend’s school volleyball tournament will go on as scheduled at the Eagle Event Center but no spectators will be allowed in the building. As of today (Thursday, August 20, 2020), all of the new cases are at the Hennessey Care Center. Director of Nursing, Jill Vincent said, “We have 25 of the 34 residents, and 6 staff members that have tested positive. 2 residents have been hospitalized.” Vincent went on to say, “The 6 staff members have been sent home and all of the residents are isolated to their rooms.” All of the staff and residents will be tested again on Monday. The Care Center is getting help from their corporate offices as well as for the State Department of Health. According to the website coronavirus.health.ok.gov, there have not been any deaths from the virus in Hennessey.
